Originally I thought that Salicylates were the biggest culprit but have come to realize that the artificial colors (made from coal tar and petroleum), the preservatives (BHA, BHT, sodium benzoate ) and other additives ( vanillin, msg, sodium nitrate) are just as much to blame.
I have come to the realization that wheat and gluten doesnt agree with me. Even though I tested negative to Celiac Disease, many of us are NCGS.(non-celiac-gluten-sensitive.) My constant bloating after eating pasta and bread convinced me to give it up. I feel much better in that respect. They say that gluten intolerance may be the mother of all food intolerances. If you are gluten int. and continue to eat it, it damages the villi in the intestines. If you heal the gut by giving up gluten, your other intolerances may subside a little. ( But they wont disappear completely)
