EVERY SINGLE TIME I DRIVE IN MY CAR. I can remember years ago, every time I left from a visit at my Mom's I would experience a very dry mouth. I always wondered what I might have eaten to cause it but it was the car. Now I have noticed that every time I start driving somewhere I get a very dry mouth. It's not hard to figure out. There are always petroleum and benzene fumes in a car. Add in the fumes from the carpet, leather, adhesives, plastic and throw in some mold and dust in the vents. Voila !!!!!!
Its very consistent. Check it out the next time you drive. My husband never believed me but I could never drive in his BMW without getting an immediate headache. The same thing happened with a 2nd BMW he got. Last year I told this to a car dealer when my son was shopping for a car and he said the exact same thing happened to his wife in his BMW. Some of us are very MCS ( Multiple Chemical Sensitive). Who knows what BMW cures their leather with.
SUGAR - Whenever I eat too much sugar I get a very dry mouth. My blood sugar levels are a little higher than average. Pre-pre diabetic but evidently sugar does affect me.
FLUORIDE - The water at my house doesn't have fluoride but the water at my Shore House does. Since my dry mouth is worse at the shore I tried drinking mostly bottled water this summer and it definitely helped. Try to watch the video called FIRE WATER from Australia about Fluoride in water. Its a real eye opener.
Lastly, I know that my dry mouth improved a little when I gave up my bowl of ice cream every night and my bowl of gluten-free cereal every morning.
Was it the sugar in the ice cream and cereal, the corn syrup in the ice cream, or is it Dairy.
Even though I am Lactose Intolerant I always ate dairy because it only gave me gas and bloating, none of my more severe symptoms. The milk on my cereal was actually Lactaid Milk so now I am wondering if maybe I am more affected by the protein in milk, Casein.
So now I only get dry mouth when I drive or eat too much sugar but thats so much better than last summer when I had chronic dry mouth 24/7.
Now, as far as my burning lips and tongue go, I still get them when I eat too much of my famous Apple Dessert made with peeled Yellow Delicious Apples, or Fig Preserves, or too much cabbage or brussel sprouts. I think I also get them from artificial colors and flavors and the jury isnt in on this one yet but I suspect my Calcium/zinc/magnesium vitamin of giving me burning lips.
